Luis Fennessy
Medical Student & Neurotechnology Researcher
I’m a medical student with a background in computer science and statistical modelling, passionate about the intersection of neuroscience, engineering, and translational medicine. With this blog, I aim to bridge the gap between clinicians, patients, and technologists by providing clear, evidence-based analysis of developments in medical technology.

My Journey
My year of research abroad began modelling spinal cord stimulating as a Research Intern at Lausanne-based lab NeuroRestore
My involvement in the neurotech industry began as a Machine Learning Research Intern with Sydney-based startup Resonait.
With a desire to experience the real-world impact of the integration of technology into clinical practice, I began my MD journey at Melbourne Medical School.
It was in Lausanne, Switzerland, where I became the first Australian awarded EPFL’s Masters Excellence Fellowship - and where I began applying my passion for statistical modelling to the neurotech sphere.
My professional career kicked off as a quantitative trader at IMC, learning about the dynamic and complex modelling of financial markets in Amsterdam and Sydney.
I discovered my affinity for modelling during my University of Melbourne BSc and D-MATH, where I was awarded the Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship in Computing, Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship and Deans Honours List Awards. The McCreery Travelling Scholarship kickstarted my semester abroad at University College Dublin.
This journalistic blogging endeavour is not a recent interest - my love of writing originated in high school, culminating in the VCE English Premiers Award.
